A little bit about Elia...
Elia* has always loved reading. She loves science, too. As a little girl, she wanted to be a nurse and a ballerina. Instead, she became a scientist and a writer. Elia studied biochemistry (and lots of other subjects) in college and earned a Ph.D. in pharmacology. She left the lab bench to work as a science writer and editor. A few years ago, Elia made a New Year's resolution to pursue her dream of writing a picture book biography of a woman she'd long admired. She's pursuing that dream and working on other kids' books in Northern Virginia, where she lives with her husband and is between cats.
Elia enjoys yoga, walks with friends, tea, travel, nature, and good food. She loves flowers, often stopping to admire and photograph them. She took up the violin again after many years of neglect and enjoys playing chamber music with friends.
Elia is a member of SCBWI, the National Association of Science Writers, and the DC Science Writers Association, and is a Children's Book Academy graduate.
